5 Reasons Which Might Force You to Attempt Suicide

October 4th, 2011

The thought of committing suicide comes to your mind only when there is something gravely wrong with your life. Moreover, you find yourself extremely weak and helpless. This situation is alarming and if you get no help your life might be at risk.

Depression is often considered the main cause of committing suicide. But, depression is a very wide term and is often misconstrued. Depression is not a disease its an after effect which if persists for long, can create catastrophic consequences. Following are the 5 most common reasons which might force you to lose your senses and go for a suicidal attempt:

suicidal attempts and depression

Inability to Face the Failure:
This is counted as the most common reason for depressions which most of the time transform into fatal consequences. The majority of students committing suicide are suffering from this problem. The inability to tackle failure and move further often costs heavily, both to the student and to their families. The most common targets in these cases are sports-person or students. Such suicides can be avoided if proper care and observation is put at action.

Relationship Failure: This was counted as the most common reason for suicide in developed nations. Often the period after divorce, break ups, etc. are tagged under this. The failure of a relationship often brings loneliness and depression to the life of people. This sort of depression is very hard to heal and needs extensive love from someone close enough, especially the family members and old friends. If this loneliness prevails for longer duration, it can result in mental disorders and the patient becomes more susceptible to make suicidal attempts.

Extensive Pressure: Often parental pressure or social pressure increases so much that the victim has no choice left, but to QUIT. This is a concept which has been portrayed many a times, in movies, TV serials or in magazines. This pressure to excel in studies, married life, corporate life, etc. brings in so much pressure that the person being targeted becomes hopeless and looses faith in himself. Once, he dives into this, it becomes very hard to come out as the people who were supposed to help him, are the ones who are responsible for his condition. This helplessness and consistent pressure to outperform, forces the person to attempt suicide and end his life.

Death of a Loved One: Often the death of a close family member results in loss of mental peace and stability. There were incidences where the individuals committed suicide immediately after the death of their mother, father, wife or lover. This happens with the people who have been very close to the person who died. They attach themselves to the incidence and think that their life is useless without the one who died.

Guilt: There are people who hold themselves responsible for some incidents, like the death of their loved one, etc. They are not able to forgive themselves and persistently think of the incidence. This situation is often followed by sleepless nights and change in personality. The person suffering from this often refrains himself from talking much and stays reserved. This situation if persists, leads him to attempt suicide.

All the above stated situations can be healed and such suicides can be avoided if proper care is taken.

Thousands of students migrate to USA every year in search of better courses (both at under graduate and post graduate levels) and better future. Though, in the recent times there is some restrictions over those who migrate to US for searching a job or setting up an enterprise. Why Choose Psychology as a Career ?

September 22nd, 2011

The obvious answer is “Choose Psychology because you love it.” Though this statement is very apt, but it often confuses students. How do you expect a student to love or like psychology as a subject when they were never exposed to a subject similar to Psychology during their schooling.  Thus, there is a need to explain the nature of course and future prospects of Psychology.

According to Wikipedia “Psychology is the science of behavior and mental processes.” A person who studies psychology is called a Psychologist. A Psychologist studies the behavior of individuals and groups based on basic psychology and research specific cases, if traditional methods fail. This establishes the fact that psychological service is more of a social work and is done for understanding the mental processes of individuals and social groups. Psychologists often take help from previous experiences and if need be, they do some individual research to help the one who is suffering. Thus, Psychologists are also known as social scientists and behavioral scientists.

During the practice, a Psychologist deals or explores the following issues related to mental or behavioral disorder. They take a note of attention, cognition, personality, motivation, emotions, etc. There are numerous other complex factors a Psychologist explores. He even studies the neurological aspects of the problem.

Psychology is very popular these days and there is a healthy competition among students to fill some selected number of seats in premier Psychology institutions. The student who is done with his/her schooling can easily opt for psychology in his/her bachelors, irrespective of the subjects in higher secondary, i.e. even a student from Arts or Commerce background can opt for Psychology as a subject. You may find the list of premier Psychology colleges here - Click Me.

Also, those students who are well off and can afford to finance their education in foreign countries can face numerous big universities and colleges in UK or USA which provide courses in Psychology. Individuals who are working or are not in a condition to fund their higher education in foreign countries, can apply to several on line Psychology schools and thus live their dream.

From the above discussion, it is sure that Psychology is no less than any other noble profession like engineering or medical jobs. An ideal Psychologist is expected to be very responsible, well learned, aware and passionate about his profession . Their is a lot of research involved while treating some typical cases. If you think that you can match that passion and willingness to serve the society for rest of your life, then definitely Psychology is the right career choice for you.

Causes and Symptoms of Acne

April 13th, 2010

Definition

From a medical point of view, acne is a very common dermatosis caused by an inflammation of the pilosebaceous follicles, which is induced by the bacterium Propionibacterium Acnes and/or by a change in hormones. Researchers have discovered the entire genome of this bacterium, which could lead to even more specifically targeted drugs in the future.

Its most common form, juvenile acne, affects about 80% of teenagers, healing spontaneously around the age of 19. In 90% of cases, it leaves no scars.

Bacteria play a central role in the appearance of acne, an antibacterial being an excellent therapy (e.g. benzoyl peroxide).

Acne should be properly treated because it can leave scars and lead to psychological problems such as depression, isolation and loss of confidence.

Note that there are different forms of acne (acne juvenile, acne rosacea) and only a doctor (dermatologist) may make a correct diagnosis and suggest an appropriate therapy.

Causes of  acne

Depending on the type of acne causes can be different:

Main causes of juvenile acne are hormonal disorders: During puberty the sebaceous secretion that is induced by the androgens (male sex hormones, especially testosterone) and estrogens (female sex hormones) increases significantly and influence the skin condition.

Acne (juvenile or not) has a high hereditary incidence (genetic influence). For example, if both parents have acne, the child has a 60% chance of having acne.

Multiple causes may be behind other forms of acne and even juvnile acne. Note the importance of bacteria: Propionibacterium acnes or the stress that can promote acne through increased production of sebum.

Here are more situations or factors that can promote acne:

Excessive exposure to sunlight (first the acne may decrease but after a few days or during spring time, when sun is less intense, acne may return with more vigor)

Excessive sweating, perspiration. In fact, some people find that when they go to dance or practice fitness acne tends to increase.

Acne can come in various forms. Most of the time, however, it appears in the form of blackheads or whiteheads (red or white buttons) on the skin.

In severe cases, the bumps can become large nodules, in which case medication is needed quickly to avoid scarring.

The buttons of acne are usually located on the face, upper back or chest.

Psychological Impact of Acne

April 13th, 2010

Acne is a very common skin disorder, varying in form from small red dots to large cysts. Those different types of acne can develop from one to another. According to statistical data, almost all people suffer from acne at some point of their life, and it’s not just teenagers as nearly 50% of adult women develop acne and 25% of adult men.

As oppose to what most people think, skin acne is not just a problem that occurs during puberty, it can actually affect individuals aged 20 or older. We all want to look good and because of that having acne, especially in its severe forms can be really depressing for some people. But don’t despair, there is plenty of research that’s being done on this problem and scientists have come up with all those new products that can help you out.

People get acne when blocked skin pores prevent the sebum oil from getting to the surface, as a result of which bacteria begins to grow. Acne can be classified as mild, moderate or severe. The treatment depends on the type of acne as each one of those three types requires a different approach. Remember that although acne is absolutely curable, there is no magical product that will cure you in two days.

Here are some very useful tips for taking care of your skin acne. Since exposure to the Ultra-Violet radiation is the number one reason for acne outbreaks, try not to stay exposed for more than one hour during hot summer days and always apply sunscreen. Another very good step you can take is to keep your skin clean and remove dead skin. Proper skin cleanser and a sunscreen are perhaps the most effective skin care products.
